Training, Supervision & Consultations

I am available to offer training to individuals and teams to help improve practice and procedures regarding Capacity Assessments and/or Deprivation of Liberty. The training can be offered as stand-alone sessions, or by combining the two into a full day course.

Whilst Capacity Assessments and Deprivation of Liberty are my particular specialisms, I am also able to offer a broad range of training from Safeguarding, Reporting to Court, Supervised Contact and beyond. Please contact me using the form on this site and I will get back to you as soon as I can to discuss your needs and how I can help.

I am also available to provide Supervision sessions for individuals, whether this is an Independent Social Worker who wishes to discuss a particular case, or a Registered Manager who wants on-going monthly supervision regarding the children they are looking after.

My Consultancy Services are available to Independent Social Workers and any other Social Care professional, whether this is supporting a Social Worker to make the change into Independent work, a current Independent Social Worker who wants support with preparing reports, quotes etc. or a Registered Manager wishing to discuss a particular issue on a less frequent basis than monthly supervision. The service is as flexible as you need it to be and can be tailored to meet your needs.

For individuals who wish to book onto a remote training session, the cost per person is £30 plus VAT. Please email me for dates of when sessions will be running and to book onto them.

For group bookings, or to have me train your team privately, a half-day session typically runs for three hours and is charged at £300 plus VAT.

The full-day session (whether this covers one topic or two) is charged at £500 plus VAT and runs for 5-6 hours.

The courses can be delivered either in-person or remote and there is no limit on the number of attendees in either format.

Deprivations of Liberty can occur for many reasons and the law is clear that this is the case for both adults and children alike. However, the processes and procedures involved vary significantly, from the assessments which need to be undertaken, the Court the application is made to, and the length of time which the deprivations can be approved for.

The training I have developed over the last ten years can be tailored to your eaxct needs and specific circumstances, but can cover all of the aspects of Deprivation of Liberty, including the differences between adults and children.

The training can be provided to social work teams, residential homes, foster carers, or anyone else involved in caring for children with complex needs or where there are significant safeguarding concerns. The training provides an explanation of the legal basis to Deprivation of Liberty, the assessments which need to be completed, the Court Orders which can be applied for (including when different Orders are most appropriate), the reviewing process once an Order is granted, and how to develop an "exit plan" from the use of the Deprivations.

The training can be provided either in-person or remotely and I also offer refresher courses to update your team with key changes since your last training was provided. The arena of Deprivation of Liberty changes quickly and significantly and my continued practice in the area allows me to stay abreast of these changes and the implications professionals face when caring for children.

Contact me using the form below and we can discuss your exact needs and how I can best meet them for you.

Deprivation of Liberty Training

Capacity Assessment Training

As well completing Capacity Assessments myself, I am also available to provide training to you / your team regarding the completion of them. Whether you are a Local Authority team responsible for completing numerous Capacity Assessments, or a Residential Home wanting a briefing on what to expect when one is being completed, I am available to tailor my training to meet your specific needs.

For training on the completion of Assessments, this will include useful hints and tips, practical examples and considerations of people who may require assessments, as well as exploring the legal requirements of assessments (to ensure there are no delays when making applications to Court).

Capacity Assessments are a requirement when a person is Deprived of their Liberty (if they lack Capacity) and therefore these two courses are often combined to make a full day (or more) of training.

Consultations

In addition to providing training to increase knowledge around specific subjects, I am also able to offer consultations, where we can discuss a specific situation you are in and I can assist in overcoming the difficulties you are facing.

This can either be through one-to-one consultations with a manager (team manager or home manager for example) or by meeting with a whole team to conduct reflective supervision and discuss the situation together.

Please contact me to discuss your specific needs and we can discuss how much this servcie costs, but it is typically charged at £50 per hour.

Supervision

Finally, I offer professional supervision to Independent Social Workers, Registered Managers, Responsible Individuals and any other professioanl within a Social Care setting.

Supervision can be regular monthly supervision to help you manage your ongoing work. Or it can be on an ad-hoc basis to discuss particularly challenging assessments / cases you are facing.

As part of this service, I am also able to proof read assessments and reports prior to you filing them with Court.

For supervision sessions, these can take place either in-person or via video call, however, if a significant distance needs to be travelled, then I will need to charge for travel expenses. Otherwise, the sessions are charged at £50 per hour.

Proof reading of reports will vary depending on the report being read, but for a Parenting Assessment, I charge £75 (which includes as many revisions and discussions as required).

Any other assistance, especially for Independent Social Workers, such as drafting quotes or networking and finding work, can also be provided. Please contact me using the form below and we can discuss your specific needs.
